On Rejection
On a trip to Vienna, Austria this Czechia man helped me figure out the train system and ticketing. Like, he took time out of his day to help me get from the airport to my hotel in the city centre. I am always appreciative when strangers are that nice to me. It reminds me that love is a gift freely given, it cannot be earned.
Anyway, we hang out, he invited me to have coffee and cake at the station where he would catch his ride to the neighbouring country he was getting to. We exchanged contacts on the Signal app, maybe a sign there. And i never heard from him again. I reached out on there but nothing. I am still not sure what happened. Thing is I’m not sure if it’s my place to even process this ghosting. We met because i needed help, help was rendered and it was a bye. I guess my thing is, why go through the entire rigmarole of exchanging contacts when we could have just said bye and see you maybe. Oh, the thought just occurred to me, what if he died?
Ghosting without the slow burn is a mercy. Better than the death knell of the one word answers. Where we worry so much about hurting another’s feelings when we should worry about what the spirit inside of us is telling us.
